Recently, a country-specific regional IP thematic project - ASEAN IP thematic event was held in Beijing, hosted by the Beijing Municipal Intellectual Property Office and co-organized by the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association, the Capital Intellectual Property Service Association and the Beijing (Zhongguancun) International Intellectual Property Service Hall. The activity was hosted by Wang Jing, Secretary General of the Association, and more than 50 people from innovation subjects and intellectual property service organizations attended the activity.

Gao Yongyi, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Vice President of the Association, pointed out in his speech that the two sides have a long history of fruitful co-operation in the field of intellectual property protection and innovation. He expressed his hope that the event would provide insights for both sides, promote new breakthroughs in IPR protection, technological innovation and business practices, and through joint efforts, deepen the cooperation between China and ASEAN in the field of IPR and produce more fruitful results.

At the event, Mr. Pham Nghiem Xuan, President of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (AIPA), made an in-depth presentation on the theme of "Strengthening Intellectual Property Protection and Promoting Investment and Trade between China and ASEAN". He emphasised the importance of the IPR system in trade and investment, and pointed out that the increasingly close economic relationship between China and ASEAN requires timely strengthening of the IPR systems of both sides in order to promote the growth of trade and investment. These contents can help enterprises better understand and respond to the IP environment in ASEAN and enhance their competitiveness in the international market.

In addition, lawyer Xiong Yulan from Beijing Deheheng Law Firm shared case studies on IPR protection strategies in ASEAN, especially the trademark case of Ruixing Coffee in Thailand, which provided an in-depth analysis of trademark use and infringement issues currently faced by overseas companies, pointing out that enterprises need to pay attention to IPR protection and lay out their plans ahead of time in order to cope with potential risks.

Ms Nguyen Hoang Giang, Honorary Secretary General of ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (AIPA), delivered a speech on the topic of "Navigating Patent Protection and Enforcement: Best Practices for Foreign Investors in Vietnam". She introduced the patent legal framework in Vietnam, in particular the existing legal documents and relevant international treaties and agreements, and provided advice to foreign investors on patent protection and enforcement. She emphasised the importance of enhancing understanding of the Vietnamese IP market to help Chinese companies avoid risks.

Mr. Lu Yimeng from Beijing Sanyou Intellectual Property Agency Co., Ltd. shared his experience on "Trademark Practices in the Process of Brand Globalisation", discussing the best strategies for overseas trademark registrations in ASEAN countries, in particular the practice of examining absolute grounds in Thailand and Vietnam, and providing advice on how to deal with infringements and disputes.

Finally, Su Qiaoliang, former President of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (AIPA), reviewed the development of intellectual property rights in ASEAN and shared his professional opinions on the declaration of use of trade marks and patent examination, which provide important references for Chinese enterprises to go overseas. He also provided early warning advice to the participants through the case of malicious registration in Singapore.

The event aimed to promote international exchanges on intellectual property, accelerate the promotion of high-level open development, and help the construction of an international science and technology innovation center and a strong intellectual property city.
